Of the many different designs offered, one interesting line is the Mikasa Intaglio line. As you may have already guessed, this design is created using the intaglio print method. To create their designs, they first etch or engrave a design in the surface plate. Then ink is applied and wiped off, leaving ink only in the engraved portions of the plate. A good way to remember this is that the word “intaglio” is an Italian word that simply means “within the surface.” Therefore, the ink used to create the designs in these plates is inside the actual surface of the plate.

In the Mikasa Intaglio line, there are many designs. I am featuring two in this site. The first is Garden Harvest. This design features a rim with many colors in designs of various fruits and vines. The second line is called Arabella. In this design, the edges are decorated with images of blue tulips and green vines.

Both of the designs under the Mikasa Intaglio line are dishwasher, microwave and freezer safe. They are stoneware so the pieces are perfect for everyday use.
